Post-Operative Instructions for Stage II Implants

This procedure uncovers the gum tissue directly over the implant(s). Generally, this is a minor procedure, but does require some post-operative care.

Any temporary prosthesis (partial or denture) is checked and adjusted at this appointment. This temporary prosthesis is to be used for minimal chewing and appearance only.

1) If you experience any discomfort the first day, ice over the area does help.

2) Ibuprofen (Advil) generally works well if medicine is needed. Rarely is prescription medication required.

Eat cool, soft foods that do not require chewing, while your mouth is numb. Once the numbness is gone, you may eat what you want as long as you are comfortable.

Begin salt water rinses (1/4 tsp of salt to a full warm glass of water). Perform these 3-4 times a day for the next 4-5 days. This will help the tissue heal.

Generally, your dentist will want to see you approximately 14 days after your implants have been uncovered. Please call your dentist for an appointment. We have notified their office that you have completed your Stage II procedure.

We will want to see you after your final restoration with your dentist and will send you a postcard in three months.

As always, please call us with any questions or concerns.
