Your comfort and safety are our top priorities at Northlake Oral & Facial Surgery. We offer several options for anesthesia to ensure you feel at ease during your procedure. You and your oral surgeon will decide on the best anesthesia option for you at the consultation. Factors such as personal preference, health history, and type of procedure will help in deciding the best option for you.
Types of Anesthesia
Northlake Oral & Facial Surgery offers several types of anesthesia or sedation:
- Local anesthesia is injected directly into the surgical area. This numbs a specific area of the body. It does not affect consciousness. Other types of sedation may be used in conjunction with local anesthesia.
- Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a mask around your nose and allows the patient to relax while remaining awake. Also known as laughing gas, its effects wear off soon after the mask is removed. It is commonly used with local anesthesia.
- Intravenous (IV) sedation is administered directly into the bloodstream. IV sedation allows a patient to enter a sleep-like state. Many wisdom teeth removal and dental implant patients select IV sedation.
- Hospital or Surgery Center-Based General Anesthesia are for patients who require more complicated or extensive procedures. An anesthesiologist administers general anesthesia.
